"Importing Microsoft Word Files into Flare Projects” - March 19, 11 AM – 12 PT – For information

2012 Spectrum – Rochester, NY, April 22–24

“Developing for the Unknown” – Today, we create content for output as online help and PDF, but what about tomorrow? Because we don’t know, it’s increasingly important to create content that’s technically clean, consistent, and maintainable – future-proofed. That requires the right design philosophy and the right use of control mechanisms, the subjects of this presentation.

2012 STC Summit – Chicago-Rosemont, Il, May 20–23

“Developing for the Unknown” – Today, we create content for output as online help and PDF, but what about tomorrow? Because we don’t know, it’s increasingly important to create content that’s technically clean, consistent, and maintainable – future-proofed. That requires the right design philosophy and the right use of control mechanisms, the subjects of this presentation.

“Beyond the Bleeding Edge” (Moderator) – As technical communication becomes increasingly technical, and as the pace of change accelerates, it’s important for technical communicators to stay informed about new technologies, tools, and trends. That’s the job of Beyond the Bleeding Edge, a session that provides an early warning system for STC members. Topics and speakers to be determined in March.

Using Help Authoring Tools Like RoboHelp or Flare to Create Pseudo-CMSs   1/30/12, 11 AM – noon ET

Thinking about moving your doc group to a CMS? CMSs are expensive, and can conflict with your culture and workflows. Help authoring tools (HATs) like Flare or RoboHelp seem unrelated to CMSs, but they offer features like repositories and content customization using conditionality and variables.  If you’re thinking about adopting a CMS, you can use a HAT to build a simulated CMS to spot problems before buying a “real” CMS.  You might even be able to use the HAT as a CMS, reducing disruption and saving money.  This webinar looks at how to use HATs to create “pseudo-CMSs” for practice purposes, perhaps even as “true” CMSs.

And an ebook? Do you need to be a programmer to create these things? This one-hour webinar provides a quick, high-level overview of reasons for going mobile, types of mobile, how to create mobile outputs without being a programmer, and how to plan for it.

Need a native mobile app for your company but you’re not a programmer and don’t want to hire one? In this webinar, we’ll look at a new class of authoring tools that let non-technical business users create powerful native mobile apps with no programming.
