If
you signed up to try the MobiFlex app development tool, you may have done
fine with the interface design only to bog down with the data management
needed to make your app work. MobiFlex' data management interface is simple
to use and the Google Docs spreadsheet model is familiar to any Excel
user, but mapping data between these two tools can take some practice.
That's what this short course offers.
In
this course, you'll take an existing but static app and add the data management
controls needed to make it live. You'll get an overview of MobiFlex' three
types of data handling – web services, SQL, and Google Docs, before going
into depth on Google Docs. You'll learn how to read and write data between
the app and the spreadsheet, and update and delete data on the spreadsheet
via the app. When you're done, you'll have a complete working app, using
a Google Docs spreadsheet, that can serve as a model for your own apps.
This
half-day, hands-on course is aimed at people who signed up to try MobiFlex
but need some quick help getting up to speed on the data management. Some
familiarity with MobiFlex screen design and Excel spreadsheets in general
is helpful but not necessary. The only requirements
are broadband web access and either an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2 or higher
or an Android phone running Android 2.2 or higher.
